Manchester Derby: Man City Humbles United 3-0, Proves Manchester is Still Blue!
Manchester is BLUE (Again)! City 3 – 0 United
The Manchester Derby wasn’t a contest, it was a City masterclass with a side of Haaland.
Well, folks, it happened. The much-hyped, much-anticipated Manchester Derby turned out to be less of a fierce rivalry and more of a “look what our neighbors are up to” situation for the red half of the city. Manchester City, in a display of pure, unadulterated dominance, rolled over Manchester United with a clean 3-0 victory at the Etihad. If you were hoping for a nail-biter, you’re probably still watching the highlights trying to figure out where United’s defense went. Hint: It went on a coffee break and never came back.
The Comedy of Errors and Goals
The first half started with United’s defense looking surprisingly organized, like a group of friends who just agreed on a restaurant for dinner. But that didn’t last long. Phil Foden, the Stockport Sensation, decided enough was enough and popped up with a perfectly placed header from a Doku cross to put City up 1-0. United’s new manager, Ruben Amorim, probably looked at his watch, muttered “well, that’s not ideal,” and scribbled a note to himself that read: “Get new defenders?”
The second half was a showcase for the man who eats, sleeps, and breathes goals: Erling Haaland. After what can only be described as a generous assist from United’s defense (or lack thereof), Haaland muscled his way past Luke Shaw to chip it over the keeper for his first. He celebrated with his iconic “Siuuuu,” which, at this point, should probably just be a part of the Premier League sound package. Just for fun, he then hit the post with an open goal, proving that even a goal-scoring machine can have a sense of humor. He made up for it later, of course, with a cheeky finish that was so easy, it looked like he was just taking a penalty in his backyard. His two goals completely deflated United, who by then were probably just dreaming of the full-time whistle and a hot shower.
Star Performances & The Italian Job
While Haaland stole the headlines, the real star of the show might have been City’s new Italian goalkeeper, Gianluigi Donnarumma. In his Premier League debut, he pulled off a “world-class save” on a wicked volley from United’s Bryan Mbeumo. It was the kind of save that makes you stand up and say, “Wow, this guy actually signed for us?” The save was so spectacular, it even made a few United fans in the stadium think, “Man, I wish we had a keeper who did that.” It’s clear Pep Guardiola knew what he was doing by bringing him in to replace the departed Ederson.
